What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

We have recently been involved in some M&A cases and debt structuring, in addition to reviewing strategic documents. The performance of the internal legal department is based on idealising projects and making business possible, suggesting creative solutions with risk mitigation for the administration. In the controversy’s team, we dealt with labour challenges, particularly in the pandemic final scenario. We also started to act preventively and in agreements that reduce the company’s exposure.

Did the pandemic lead to a lasting increase in the interaction your legal team has with the strategic plans of the company?

Ultimately, I think our legal team increased its presence in the strategic planning of the company, as pandemic times were a very dynamic period and decisions needed to be taken quickly, involving different areas of the company, and coordination with our business partners.

How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners?

I think that the two key elements are being a business facilitator, providing solutions within the legal parameters, and speaking the same language as your business partners, to not confuse them with too much technical verbalisation.

What are some of the main legislative or regulatory changes that have impacted you?

Most recently, tax and environmental law were the main areas where legislative changes had the biggest impact on our legal team’s work.
