As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?
Much as a cliché, the in-house lawyer is no longer, maybe for a decade, a lawyer. He is a law trained business advisor, who is expected to foresee and pre-empt potential limitations and assist the company to achieve business goals in a structured and solid basis. To cope with that expectation, he needs to understand the business and have a substantial set of soft skills to respond to and enchant internal client.
How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners?
The best way to do it is to put yourself in the client shoes and to understand and seek company´s goals. We are brothers in arms with businesspeople, and are expected to build a connection that should enable a trust relationship in time.
