What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

We have been an active part in the implementation of measures and activities to reduce the number of lawsuits filed against the bank, including the following combat fronts: judiciary sessions, implementation of the active legal system – customer contact center to confirm the filing of a lawsuit against Bmg, identifying the veracity of information and the reason for filing a lawsuit, the creation of an internal quality cell to verify the client’s documentation, including the identification of document fraud; and the creation of a booklet explaining the product practiced by Bmg, in order to explain to the judiciary, the specific characteristics of the product.

Additionally, we have been responsible for the organisation of an internal legal intelligence cell to monitor data related to jurimetrics and identifying opportunities to reduce the costs of legal proceedings, through percentage of successes in lawsuits, average ticket values, monitoring of the behavior of the judiciary in decisions at national level and conciliation of judicial deposits.

How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?

It is very important to choose offices that are in line with the performance and understanding of values ​​of Bmg. We consider the law firm’s profile, line of action, credibility, mission and values ​​whenever we hire new law firms. Moreover, digital transformation and ESG issues are also very important for our decision-making process.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most? Which have you found most useful in your legal team?

Technological advances and technology maturity are very important, as they are something we also considered when contracting and maintaining service provisions. All of the departments within the company need to be integrated with Bmg systems, and all communications about processes and consultations must be done through the system, as well as tasks and fee payments, avoiding the exchange of emails between parties.
