What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Recently, our legal department has been very active in a massive reduction of our labour lawsuit portfolio and in the reduction of more than half a billion Brazilian reais of accruals, in less than two years of working. Also, we implemented data protection governance at the company, with a positive approach from the headquarters, and different technology tools by using power business intelligence in labour and civil areas. Furthermore, we have negotiated and closed important and relevant civil legal cases through settlement agreements with a positive impact on the company’s accruals. Lastly, we have been provided active legal support in important deals and partnerships.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most? Which have you found most useful in your legal team?
In my opinion, I consider Legal Insights, digitalisation and Power BI to be the most important technological advancements that will impact our legal department in the future.
As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?
In my opinion, it is fundamental for a corporate legal team to have technology skills, emotional intelligence, a more business-oriented approach and a mindset focused on mitigating risks.
How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners?
The best way to build a strong relationship with business partners is by understanding the business and being able to participate and contribute on the company’s strategy, providing the best advice to your business partners and developing and lasting and trusting relationship.
