What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
I had the opportunity to participate in the growth of the Enel group in Brazil, through the acquisition of new assets through operations of various natures, such as privatization, public offering for the acquisition of shares and private negotiations.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most? Which have you found most useful in your legal team?
The growth and business model that I operate with many special purpose companies generates quite a lot of manual work in the elaboration of corporate acts. The pandemic has accelerated and increased the offer of legal document automation software, which will allow the optimization of repetitive work, freeing lawyers for more intellectual work.
As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?
In addition to legal knowledge, it is important to be objective, assertive and effective in communication, making legalese simple by adjusting the language according to your interlocutor, having the ability to adapt to changes quickly, understanding new non-traditional business models, having a critical and strategic vision knowing the business and its trends well.
What are some of the main legislative or regulatory changes that have impacted you?
In the electricity sector, there is currently an expectation of how the regulator and the government will regulate the conditions for the renewal of electricity distribution service concessions.
