Some of our significant transactions have included distribution agreements, international contracts, and resolution of disputes with high value involved. In addition to this, the company has adapted to the 14 regulatory changes that have been published in the past few years, which have had a direct impact on the company’s business.

How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?

As we need to be aligned with the company’s values, our external lawyers need to be as well. After all, they are an extension of our team. This alignment facilitates the identification of strategies to be adopted in daily communication. I have noticed that the firms that have values aligned with the company’s values bring greater results to our business.

As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?

To keep up with the advances of the modern in-house industry, a legal team needs to know the market trends and new technologies, speak the language of the business in which it is inserted, understand which KPI’s are relevant to the business and track them. In addition, it is important to be flexible to keep up with changes in business direction, and very resilient to adapt quickly to adverse situations arising from these constant changes in business.

How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners?

It is essential that the in-house lawyers establish a relationship of partnership and transparency with business partners. It is necessary to listen to and understand the business and its impacts on the internal areas, to identify and assume risks, enabling the continuity and expansion of the business, according to the guidelines allowed by the company.
