What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Great Wall launched its products in the market in 2023. Our biggest challenge was supporting the company’s business operations; ensuring the signature of main contracts; implementing a sales structure; and continuously supporting the company’s production plans.

Having a great team was certainly the key to the high quality of work, prompt responses and readiness for future demands.

What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?

In my view, the qualities for legal executives are the same for all sectors. They should be able to act as a business partner, helping the company to take the best decision; manage relationships with leaders; lead by example, caring for the team; be agile and adapt to different environment; be business and people oriented; reliable; and have a sense of integrity.

How have you fostered a closer collaboration between the legal department and your business counterparts?

From the start, building close relationships with the company’s main stakeholders was challenging. The company started from scratch, during the pandemic, and the Brazilian staff needed to earn the company’s trust, with the work planning and by producing results.

I started the legal department alone, working solo for a few months until I could have my team to support me (still working remotely). Therefore, daily online contact and timely work delivery were very important factors that contributed towards building relationships, gaining the trust of leaders and peers, aiding the design of the workflow process across all teams.

Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

When asked what I would do if I did not depend on my salary, I always answer that I would continue to work in law, possibly as a pro bono lawyer in law firms or third sector companies. Being a lawyer has always been my passion, and it would certainly be a great personal achievement if someday I am able to combine my experience with volunteer work.
