What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

We are involved in topics relating to process improvements and the search for efficiency, as more strategic topics for the business. This year we were involved in the entire process of preparing for the launch of a super innovative product for multiple myeloma treatment, where we worked on negotiating several models of contracts with large hospitals and clinics to enable all the logistics of this treatment, so that it can be launched in 2024.

We lead an efficiency project on our labour lawsuit portfolio, where we were able to reduce the impact of provisions by 35%, resulting in significant savings. Still on efficiency-boosting projects, after the successful implementation of standard contracts for about 90% of our commercial contracts through pre-defined templates, we were able to maintain a high level of adherence to our template (approximately 86%), reducing expenses and the timeline for contract delivery.

What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?

To be a successful in-house lawyer, it is important to know your business in depth; be a good listener and ask the right questions; be creative, with a solution-oriented mindset; and take on the role of a trusted advisor.

How have you fostered a closer collaboration between the legal department and your business counterparts?

Close collaboration, in my view, only comes with trust. To gain trust, it is necessary that there is a very transparent relationship between departments; and the recognition that as a legal function, we are oriented to look at opportunities actively and responsibly – being part of the decision-making processes and assuming their consequences.

Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

I am passionate about many things. I love my work and the people I work with. In addition to this, being able to wake up every day knowing that my efforts may be providing treatments of very severe diseases to more people than the previous day, is very motivating.

I love my family, my wife, children, and friends. Being able to stay with them is my biggest source of energy. Another passion is sports, especially basketball. I have been playing this sport since I was ten and I have learned a lot from it.
