What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The legal team led the efforts to reduce the import duty from 35% to 20% after over 20 years of a high level of protectionism. They also played an active role in the negotiation with the authorities to obtain a tax incentive for local manufacturing in Mexico (CUPO).

Under my management and strategy, outlined together with partner law firms, the company obtained favorable decisions of the first and second levels of jurisdiction in a case that is now considered one of the main intellectual property disputes in Brazil (at the moment, pending a decision by the STJ).

What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?

Unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer include possessing a holistic view of the business, agility and resiliency.

How have you fostered a closer collaboration between the legal department and your business counterparts?

I have fostered a closer collaboration by being extremely curious about how the business works and by creating a genuine connection between my personal purpose and the company’s. I believe in the business and that I can make the difference every day.

Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

I participate in mentoring programs with underprivileged Brazilian teens, particularly the one managed by the NGO Vocação.
