Coca-Cola Canada
As general counsel, executive vice president and corporate secretary, Scott Kirkpatrick leads the in-house legal team that handles all manner of legal issues for Coca-Cola’s operations in Canada as well as for The Minute Maid Company Canada. The team’s responsibilities range in scope and complexity but typically include negotiating commercial contracts, reviewing all marketing materials and managing external counsel for one of the world’s most highly valued trademarks. The legal team also provides competition law advice, oversees employment matters, maintains corporate filings, provides ethics and compliance training, negotiates commercial transactions, handles environmental matters, instructs on class action litigation, drafts sponsorship agreements and generally supports the Coca-Cola executive team in Canada. Scott and his team led the review and risk assessment and management of a highly successful, first-ever “Share a Coke” marketing campaign using consumers’ names or nicknames on millions of packages across Canada. A nominator identifies that the team is exemplary in its ability to ‘assist the business in finding alternative solutions when barriers are presented… understanding [the] issues the industry faces and offer business-savvy advice’.
