ConocoPhillips Canada’s internal legal operations are managed by a highly respected team of lawyers, paralegals and security professionals led by general counsel and vice president of legal Stephen Lee. In the role since 2016, Lee leads the team to provide comprehensive oversight of all legal, compliance and security concerns of the firm across its extensive Canadian operations and advises on business strategy and corporate activity. The in-house legal team acts for the oil giant on all matters pertaining to M&A, supply chain, infrastructure and transportation, as well as its oil sands and off-shore interests, requiring expertise in a number of legal practice areas. Maintaining a diverse portfolio across Canada from the Beaufort Sea and Mackenzie Delta across western Canada, Arctic regions and the Atlantic coastal and offshore territories, ConocoPhillips Canada is constantly expanding its remit. In 2018, the legal team acted for the company in its purchase of 35,000 net acres in the Montney Formation for approximately C$120m, expanding the company’s acreage in the area
to 140,000 net acres.
