IBM Canada
IBM Canada has an innovative and industry leading legal department responsible for the Canadian aspects of the international technology firm’s legal business. Some of its greatest achievements has been enabling sponsorships and partnerships with entrepreneurs, small businesses and institutions that allow IBM to bring to market some of its innovative technology and expertise. In November 2018, IBM announced a partnership with Montreal based Institute for Data Valorization, a data science expert, to bring together IBM’s expertise in artificial intelligence and the company’s industry experience. This initiative forms part of IBM’s Client Innovation Centre in Montreal, focused on artificial intelligence and Salesforce, a major growth area for the company. The legal team has also worked on a partnership arrangement with Goldcorp, to co-author a new product with IBM Watson to increase predictability in gold exploration and mineralisation. Similarly, the team worked on a partnership between IBM, A.P Moller-Maersk and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) to develop and pilot, TradeLens, a blockchain powered digital shipping solution designed to promote faster and more secure international trade.
