Suncor Energy
Suncor Energy is a pioneering integrated energy company based in Calgary, Alberta, and was one of the first companies to operate in the Athabasca oil sands from 1967. With product lines in oil sands development and upgrading, offshore oil and gas, petroleum refining and product retail and marketing under its Petro-Canada brand, Suncor is a major figure in the Canadian energy market. The company’s in-house legal team is led by senior vice president and general counsel Arlene Strom, and it is responsible for all legal and corporate governance matters across the company. The team manages the company’s regulatory footprint in terms of financial regulation, as it is listed on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges as well as the Dow Jones Sustainability index, FTSE4Good and CDP. In January 2018, Suncor announced the implementation of autonomous haulage systems (AHS) at company-operated mines with its North Steepbank mine starting the programme. This innovative system is a first in the industry using autonomous trucks and is one of the largest investments in electric autonomous vehicles globally.
