Could you share an example of a moment when I came up with an innovation that improved the way my legal team works and didn’t have a large cost?
I implemented the creation of frequent consultation manuals for the commercial areas. This initiative has allowed us to provide immediate responses to the most common legal inquiries, empowering the commercial departments to make informed and agile decisions. It has resulted in significant savings in time and operational costs, while minimising legal risks by ensuring greater consistency in our responses.
What are some key developments (legal, geopolitical, or otherwise) that have affected our business over the past year?
Over the past year, we have observed a growing influence of digital innovation in the legal sphere, as well as significant changes in regulation and geopolitics at the regional level. Particularly, the shift towards complete digital management of contracts, agreements, and billing has been a key development for our operation in Costa Rica. Additionally, the need to quickly adapt to changes in data protection and privacy regulations has been a constant challenge for our team.
How do we believe the role of internal legal will evolve in the coming years?
We believe that the role of internal legal will play a fundamental role in validating and adapting information generated by artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. While these technologies can streamline operations, it is crucial to ensure that the information is accurate and complies with legal and ethical standards. Additionally, we anticipate a greater emphasis on strategic risk management and interdepartmental collaboration to drive innovation and sustainable business growth.
Do we use any ‘legal technology’ products, and if so, for what areas of our work do we find them most useful?
Yes, we have implemented various legal technology tools in our operation, especially in the complete management of contracts and agreements, as well as in eliminating the use of paper through the adoption of digital signatures. These tools have proven to be particularly useful in streamlining internal processes, improving efficiency, and reducing the risk of human errors in repetitive administrative tasks.
