Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved the way your legal team works and did not come at great cost?

In 2019, I initiated the implementation of a contract management tool for the region. It completely changed the way contracts were managed at the legal level in the Latam region and the overall cost was low.

What are some of the key developments that have affected your business over the past year?

In general, changes in government across the different Latam countries has brought with it many challenges, each government has its own particularities and different ways of doing things. Therefore, laws may change and be subject to new interpretations, which may entail risks for the legal operation of the company.

How do you see the in-house legal role evolving in the coming years?

It seems to me that the role of in-house lawyers will continue to grow, laws are becoming increasingly complex, and technology brings with it very important challenges for companies, for example data security risks, cyber-attacks, and more. It is important to have someone in-house who can support and protect in case of one of these unfortunate events.

Do you use any ‘legal technology’ products and, if so, for which areas of your work do you find them most useful?

Yes, we use it for the management and administration of contracts as well as for digital signatures. I think these are essential tools for any company’s legal team.
