Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved the way your legal team works and did not come at great cost?
We initiated the implementation of new IT tools to manage risk with suppliers and contract management. We also initiated the digitisation of all privacy impact assessments of IT applications to assess the legal evaluation and determine the controls to be applied. Furthermore, there was the implementation of the new Competition Compliance Portal to improve controls and prevent any violation of competition law.
What are some of the key developments that have affected your business over the past year?
We have been affected by the wars that are currently taking place globally.
How do you see the in-house legal role evolving in the coming years?
The scope of a legal professional’s role is becoming broader with the ESG agenda. It is no longer just about negotiating contracts or being a strategic partner to the company, but we now play an active role in the deployment of the ESG agenda, including human rights, data protection and compliance.
Do you use any ‘legal technology’ products and, if so, for which areas of your work do you find them most useful?
Yes, we use legal technology for contract management, competition compliance, and supplier risk management.
