 What are the major projects or initiatives you have worked on that you are most proud of?   

This year, I was appointed as LATAM Privacy and LegalTech Compliance Champion, marking a significant milestone for me. Our Privacy and LegalTech Compliance Global Team has made remarkable strides, contributing immensely to the company’s success by advancing technology, privacy, and innovation standards. 

A key achievement has been enhancing our data privacy and security protocols. In an era of frequent data breaches, we’ve implemented robust measures to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with global standards like GDPR and CCPA. This proactive approach has fortified the company and built trust with our customers and stakeholders. 

In legal technology, we’ve integrated advanced LegalTech solutions that streamline operations, boost efficiency, and reduce costs. By leveraging AI and machine learning, we’ve automated routine tasks, enabling our legal professionals to focus on strategic initiatives and positioning us as an industry leader. 

Overall, our team’s dedication to excellence in technology, privacy, and innovation has elevated the company and laid a strong foundation for future success. 

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company? 

Kimberly-Clark (KC) has integrated sustainability deeply into its core operations through several initiatives. KC now ensures its products adhere to strict environmental standards via transparent testing, auditing, and compliance procedures. KC now prioritizes waste reduction through recycling and sustainable packaging initiatives. Programs are in place to minimize water usage and enhance water quality in the communities KC serves. 

The general counsel (GC) is vital in promoting and ensuring these sustainable practices by ensuring KC complies with all relevant sustainability-related laws and regulations is a key responsibility of the GC. The GC engages with shareholders, employees, and customers to align the company’s sustainability goals with stakeholder expectations. The GC oversees the creation of robust ESG policies and ensures accurate, transparent reporting of the company’s sustainability performance. 

These efforts help KC uphold its sustainability commitments while navigating a complex legal and regulatory landscape. 

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you care about, and why? 

Caring about Privacy and LegalTech is crucial for several business reasons. Privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA, and others are becoming increasingly stringent worldwide. Non-compliance can result in hefty fines and legal repercussions. By prioritizing privacy, businesses can avoid these penalties and reduce the risk of data breaches, which can be costly both financially and reputationally. 

Likewise, consumers are more aware and concerned about their data privacy than ever before. Businesses that demonstrate a commitment to protecting customer data can build stronger trust and loyalty. This trust translates into long-term customer relationships and can be a significant competitive advantage. 

As technology evolves, so do the regulatory landscapes and consumer expectations. Investing in privacy and LegalTech ensures that a business is prepared for future changes. This adaptability is crucial for long-term success and sustainability.
