Minera Panamá
The Panamanian subsidiary of Canadian mining company First Quantum Minerals, Minera Panamá owns the concession and aims to develop the Cobre Panama copper development project. The complex aims to produce 320,000 tonnes of copper a year at peak, and to achieve this a 300MW power plant is required. As such, it is a major project within Panama (indeed, the largest new copper development in the world), and a highly important one for the country’s economy as a whole. Leading the legal support for this momentous project is Manuel Virgilio Aizpurua Rojas, who has almost eight years’ tenure with the company and is an expert in commercial projects in addition to legal ones. Joining him is lawyer Lilmarie Langmaid who has been with the team since mid-2011, prior to which she was employed in private practice.
