We are happy to nominate Daiga Muizniece for the GC Powerlist. Over the past 11 years Muizniece has worked in both corporations and big four tax and law firms, covering mostly areas around innovative and disruptive financial services and institutions. In 2015 she joined a team at VIA SMS group, based in Riga. Her roles have involved both a Latvian and international focus with experience across Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, Czech Republic, Romania and Spain, where she has demonstrably helped VIA SMS Group build, as well as ensure, legal compliance frameworks for licensed financial entities (Fintech) providing various innovative and disruptive financial services such as online consumer loans, investment P2P platforms, payment and card services. This was especially difficult considering the fact that legal regulations in respect of innovative financial services often are not always clearly defined and often not aligned across jurisdictions. What is more, this always requires a good understanding of the financial market regulatory environment, as well as establishing good dialogue with local financial markets regulators, as well as consumer and data protection regulators. She holds a LLM’s degree in EU commercial law from the University of Leicester and law diploma from University of Latvia. Her academic studies are focused around EU investor’s protection rules.
