The four-person legal team at the largest Romanian household appliances producer, Arctic, does an excellent job in supporting the full-scope of the company’s business considering the sheer amount of work arising from new developments at the company. ‘[The team] manages to set shorter cycles in checking and advising the processes,’ says the team’s leader Minerva Ionita. ‘Being involved in a permanent learning process, this “know-how” is implemented in everyday business. [The team] brings value through its business-oriented view, not only a legal perspective’, she adds when referring to her team’s capabilities. The team’s achievements have indeed been plentiful in the recent past and include major project work and internal innovations. Over the last two years alone the team has been involved in major compliance and environmental legal changes, GDPR related work, the launch of a strategy guidance and regulatory support and a highly significant state project for the opening of a new factory. The department is also credited for bringing new, improved processes both internally and externally, as well as its openness to new ideas and adaptability to change. When asked about major challenges faced by the team, Ionita says: ‘Unfortunately, the political and legal environment is not so stable in Romania. We monitor legal changes every day – something you know as a rule changes overnight and the next day you just have to inform the organisation and implement. We had to learn to adjust with this fast learning process and to explain to other internal clients’.
