The Serbian aeronautical industry’s biggest name, JAT Tehnika formed in 2006 as a separate company to the in-house maintenance facility of JAT Airlines, the former Yugoslav Airlines. JAT Tehnika is located at Belgrade International Airport with 800 employees and provides all of the maintenance for its parent company and other airlines in the region’s best equipped MRO centre. Jovan Velkovski, head of legal, leads the legal team responsible for a large variety of legal matters including insurance, labour, procurement of parts and equipment, property issues, and commercial agreements. JAT Tehnika is a state-owned entity fully owned by the Republic of Serbia, but is in an ongoing privatisation process providing additional challenge to the team, which has demonstrated excellent skill in handling this change, as well as legal disputes with competitors and other property law matters.
