The Serbian financial institution Mirabank employs a legal team of three members – Nikola Kavedzic, the department’s head who boasts 13 years of experience in the finance sector; Danilo Kustudija, a highly experienced lawyer responsible for compliance activities; and Ivan Dudic, a senior legal advisor who covers banking operations. Besides its responsibilities in providing timely and quality legal services, the team represents Mirabank before regulatory institutions, courts and other entities. The team members are credited for their involvement in various domestic and international projects and strategic initiatives, all of which have resulted in improvement of the business environment of the bank and the enhancement of its compliance with regulatory requirements. Some of these projects were related to investment and corporate banking which resulted in the team’s cooperation with many international players. ‘It should also be mentioned that the bank is in the early stage of development which assumes that the members of the legal team are supporting such development in a short period of time,’ Kavedzic states. ‘I would like to stress that this was a comprehensive process which included a lot of activities from the legal perspective that has to be taken in accordance with high international and domestic standards. After more than two years this process has been successfully completed supporting the bank to develop its business operations’. The major legal trends that have impacted the team’s work over the last two years include changes in the regulatory environment and the dynamic development of the bank which needs to be appropriately supported from the legal side.
