Alberto Julio Martínez Santander joined Teva in May 2012 as the company’s senior legal director in Venezuela. Then in May 2017, he was promoted to the regional position as senior legal director Venezuela and Latin America. In May 2018, he was transferred to Chile to continue with the regional role, as senior legal director of Chile and Latin America. He identifies that his ‘experience as legal director of the business in Venezuela helped me to develop professional skills to successfully support the business in a very challenging environment, with complex and multiple regulations’. Within his role at Teva, he has participated and led different projects to design strategies related to pricing, international trading and currency exchange control. When he joined Teva, he assumed the challenge to transform legal into a business partner, and not a barrier for doing business. He implemented that ethos and way of working in the rest of Latin America and made the legal department a reliable business partner in the continent. About his legal background, he highlights that, ‘even though I obtained my law degree in Venezuela, I’ve been capable to successfully adapt myself just in 11 months that I have in Chile, to the local legal and regulatory environment, ratifying my capacity of a business partner’.
