Regional legal counsel | Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions
After 10 years of working as an attorney in three Chilean law firms and studying an LLM in Germany, Daniel Lorenzini was selected in 2014 as regional legal counsel covering Argentina and Chile for the Swedish multinational technology and engineering group Sandvik. His legal practice was specialised towards commercial, contract and corporate law and he developed vast experience regarding international deals and mostly Swedish foreign investment in Modern Times Group, Scandia, Volvo and others. After two years in his first role in Sandvik, he was promoted to the role of regional counsel for the South Cone and Andean regions, involving Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Perú, and earlier this year was promoted as legal coordinator for North, Central and South America. Lorenzini identifies that participating and wining the Codelco Chuquicamata Automation Project bid in 2019 was a major highlight of the last year. He says, ‘being a member of a team which provides the most high-end technology available regarding automation and innovation to the biggest copper mining company in the world is a challenge and a privilege for lawyers who seek to set the industry standards’. Additionally, he worked on establishing and building a successful cross-border mining equipment leasing business for Chile, Perú and Colombia with Sandvik Credit. He identifies that he ‘was able to build solid and trustful relationships with authorities, suppliers, internal and external clients in the mining leasing business, based in timely and practical services oriented towards the effective resolution of legal problems, often at the site’. Lorenzini has focused on regional and continental legal strategies for achieving commercial results in chosen markets and segments, especially regarding underground mining equipment; and keep up-to-date with European technology related laws in order to harmonise local requirements with global industry standards regarding AI, digitalisation and automation. This scope in his abilities has been noticed by nominators including one who describes having ‘witnessed his superior capabilities of successfully managing the legal affairs of the whole region with complex countries such as Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Mexico, among others, and the versatility in the different areas of law’.
