The holding company of a private health insurance company, a clinic, an insurance company and multiple medical centres, Bupa Chile is one of the country’s leading healthcare groups. Diego Peró Ovalle moved to Bupa Chile in February 2018 to take on a diversified role where, in addition to being general counsel, he serves as the company’s board secretary and has a senior management position as head of properties. The latter sees him lead a team of over 30 people in charge of architectural design and development, construction and maintenance of approximately 300,000 square metres of real estate. Further demonstrating his integration within the business, Peró is also an active member of Bupa Chile’s committee for diversity and inclusion. Having impressed colleagues and external peers in such a short time at the company, one nominator shares some of Peró’s achievements at Bupa Chile: ‘He implemented a new internal governance system based on Bupa’s standards worldwide, including 32 policies that cross all company tasks. He led the restructuring of legal management in a model very close to business, with 12 expert lawyers who are part of the legal department but also active members of various management committees. He designed measurable KPIs and processes in the legal area, created documentary backup with artificial intelligence, as well as a new database’. With such a glowing reference, Bupa has been quickly reaping the rewards of Peró’s undoubted legal and management skills.
