Having worked in-house since 1996 Ivana Domitrovic G. occupies a prominent position in Chile’s in-house legal market, and today she serves Air Products, a world-leading US industrial and medicinal gases and liquefied gas process technology and equipment company. She is the current general counsel for South America, a position she has held since 2017. Describing some of the tasks she had to undertake when taking on the position at Air Products, Domitrovic has the following to share: ‘My current role as regional counsel for South America, didn’t exist before I joined the company. This means that I have designed the role and its functions as well as organised the regional legal department, hiring and promoting members, as well as defining and organising the interaction with the other business and functional areas’. With over 20 years of experience in senior in-house positions however, Domitrovic was able to seamlessly achieve these tasks to immediately make a positive contribution towards the business: ‘This has positively impacted the company in a regionally aligned legal and compliance strategy as well as in the alignment of the different operations and businesses in the region under certain legal and compliance standards, in accordance with corporate policies and local legislation in all that is necessary and a regional control on legal challenges and tasks, including legal expenses’, she explains. Responsible for legal, regulatory and compliance matters in South America for an operation comprising of more than 2,000 employees and 800 contractors and various unions, Domitrovic is credited for her ability in providing legal support to the business on commercial contracts, dispute resolution, M&As, competition, real estate, labour and intellectual property law, among many other areas. Prior to joining Air Products, she worked for Tyco (now Johnson Controls International) between 2010 and 2016. Initially as general counsel for Chile, she added Peru and then later southern South America and the public affairs function to her remit there. Before this period in her career, Domitrovic was general counsel and secretary of the board at the Chilean public company Polla Chilena de Beneficencia for almost one year, and before which she was assistant general counsel at Chile’s main bottler of Coca-Cola beverages Embotelladora Andina, an organisation she spent over 11 years at. Domitrovic is highly regarded in Chilean legal circles because of her achievements in all of these roles; she has a proven track record in handling international M&As, overseeing local and international corporate restructuring projects as well as complex labour negotiations and litigation. As a result of these achievements, she is rightly placed among the country’s top in-house lawyers.
