Since moving in-house in 2015, José Tomás Palacios Calvanese has excelled. In 2018 he joined SalfaCorp to serve as general counsel, a major achievement itself considering the company’s standing as one of the largest and most important Chilean construction and real estate companies. He was promoted to this position after three successful as chief counsel of Inmobiliaria Aconcagua, a SalfaCorp Group company, demonstrating the high regard that senior management within the Group. At SalfaCorp he personally addresses all of the company’s corporate and financial legal matters, and handles the relationship with all regulators and authorities. He is also board secretary and participates in board committees, including the internal audit and human resources committees. Highlighting his credentials, one nominator says the following: ‘Palacios stands out for his rigor and attention to detail in addition to his ability to understand business and get into the head of the client’. During 2018, Palacios worked with the internal comptroller to promote a diagnosis of legal sustainability matters. This led to a decision by the SalfaCorp’s board of directors to work, during 2019, on the preparation of a sustainability policy and an annual sustainability report that will include labour matters, relations with the community, gender diversity, corporate governance, and human rights, among other issues.
