With 14 years of international experience in corporate law, María Constanza Itikawa, legal manager South America at Genomma Lab, has had a career mostly focused on fast moving consumer goods companies. She started with Unilever Argentina where she was in charge of legal business partnering in marketing, customer service and supply chain, with regional responsibilities for the Southern Cone. In 2013, she was relocated to Unilever Chile where she headed local legal operations as well as guided local boards and businesses in all legal matters. Currently, she is legal manager South America at Genomma Lab in Chile, a world leading pharmaceutical and personal care products company listed on the Mexican stock market, with markets across Latin America and the US. At the moment Latin America makes up almost 50% of the company’s revenue. Since 2016 she has been managing the company’s legal operations in Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Colombia. She is responsible for the entire legal marketing issues, including copy advice, antitrust, commercial loyalty, consumer law and intellectual property matters in the South America region. Highlights of her career in the past two years has included negotiating and closing a big contract on water treatment plant construction, operation and maintenance in Arequipa, Peru and a favourable result in an important unfair competition lawsuit in Chile and Guatemala between Genomma Lab and Procter & Gamble. Itikawa highlights that her ‘international and regional experience gave me the necessary skills to produce harmonised solutions which perfectly comply with local laws, regional treaties and corporate policies across different jurisdictions, as well as put forward and adopt cost-efficient alternatives’.
