Focus on the mining of the future – automation, electrification and digitalisation

As regional legal counsel of the Swedish multinational mining technology and engineering group Sandvik, my mission is to deliver customer value with the aim of building the mine of the future in South America: automated, safe and sustainable, with equipment that is interconnected and intelligent.

These are very exciting times for innovation in mining. We have the challenging task of exploring the legal matters of the latest technologies – including AI, electrification, digitalisation and automation – constantly keeping up to date with European technology related laws and global industry standards. Sandvik offers the most advanced mining robotisation and teleoperation systems in the industry, and locally we adapt and implement projects that will transform the South American mining market forever.

While it has been a great legal challenge to implement this technology in Latin America, the results achieved with our customers are truly amazing: productivity and safety levels significantly increase, making operations much more efficient. Sandvik mining technology allows customers to monitor their equipment, providing a full overview of the fleet and enabling them to control and optimise their sites. In other words, setting mines up for success.

In this context, the legal team’s vision is to provide technical, accurate and value-adding solutions for the business. To do so, we work in close partnership with our sales areas, customer finance, business development and common functions. We support in understanding the local culture and laws, to able to build solid and trustful relationships with authorities, suppliers, internal and external clients in the mining business, based in timely and practical services oriented towards the effective resolution of legal problems.
