Focus on knowing the needs of your internal clients
A company’s legal team is called to be a functional area of the business, granting certainty of the steps intended to be taken or mitigating the risks they may generate. Therefore, understanding the needs of our internal clients is vital.
However, to do that, we must generally develop empathy towards the other, knowing their motivations, ideas, thoughts, history, actions and objectives. This exercise is done through constant training and careful execution to avoid the feeling of inappropriate interference.
Knowing the other and understanding certain personal characteristics allows to clear and order the communication, the purposes and to determine the need that a person seeks to satisfy adequately.
This necessary task is challenged today. With the pandemic, we have experienced the most revolutionary change in history with a heavy turn to technology. This has made it possible to break down unforeseen barriers, change consumer behaviour and transform — on a global level — the way of working. Virtuality in the execution of work is now the rule and face-to-face exception.
This tremendous revolution, leveraged by the reduction of costs in infrastructure and transportation, supposes a paradox. Even though technology brings us closer professionally, it separates us personally. Physical contact is irreplaceable in the task of getting to know the other, an issue that forces us to rethink how to rebuild those spaces that help achieve common goals.
Knowing the other is an instrument that only generates value by understanding the needs of the internal client, even more so in times when the world puts human relationships to the test.
