Focus on: in-house lawyers and the pandemic
In-house lawyer works in an environment where they also coexist with other professionals. For this reason, the internal lawyer must cultivate a profile that allows them to be close to all colleagues, to be efficient when it comes to legal solutions, and to communicate this in a friendly way with a language familiar to all in a permanent accompaniment. In such manner, legal knowledge and keeping updated with the regulatory landscape, are tasks that have always been present at an in-house lawyer duty.
However, after the pandemic, this role has evolved, adjusting to a new way of working which alternates face-to-face and virtual work in a hybrid mode, which reflects the evolution that society has experienced. This hybrid mode and, specifically, distance work, on one hand, does not exempt the individual from continuing to be an active promoter of the corporate values and culture of the corporation as it was carried out in the pre-pandemic stage, to nurture the bond and maintain unity whilst addressing the changes that this new form of work demands. On the other hand, the new customer’s needs no longer only imply that the in-house lawyer must fully understand the processes that allows the company’s operation and how to facilitate it, without affecting the delivery of the product.
On this matter, an internal lawyer continues to be a facilitator, providing support and delivering solutions that make it possible to ensure, in the legal aspects, that those acts previously requiring the presence of the client can now be materialised virtually. To do this, companies have implemented agile processes that allow them to achieve such needs in a flexible and efficient way, with a high degree of customer satisfaction.
