What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Oracle is on a transformational path in the cloud market, maintaining a full portfolio of solutions in the traditional IT business-to-business segment. This means that we operate with both enterprise and small and business companies. We work on complex challenges such as data protection, financial regulations, services standards, public procurement, compliance requirements, and innovation initiatives. In that line, the legal team has been actively involved in multiple negotiations closing important cloud, license and professional services deals and other initiatives for the local subsidiary.
Why are in-house lawyers well-placed to drive change in their organisations?
In-house lawyers are increasingly becoming business partners, rather than simply back-office support. This is because, often the advice provided by in-house lawyers is more defined by a risk balance approach, which means digging into the trends and complexities of the business and the industry in general. That is an advantage because adding that on top of core legal skills, permit in-house lawyers to have an important seat on the table that define corporate strategies.
As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?
Adaptability and ability to embrace changes; interest in industry and business discussions; engaging in multiple forums and provide material and trainings constantly; embrace technology to speed up legal advice.
