Managing director legal | Credicorp Capital
Team size: 30
What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Our team has been involved in reviewing new businesses in United States (real estate and debt funds), along with negotiating contracts with developers for new buildings in Santiago, especially regarding projects delayed due to the pandemic. We made some changes to our corporate chart to have a simpler and more effective governance. Additionally, we are working to launch web platforms that will allow clients to acquire local funds and international shares. Finally, the team has been working hard reviewing and adapting our practices and policies due to changes in the laws of Delitos Económicos and Data Protection.
What diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives have you and your legal department been championing within your company’s endeavours?
Alongside my role as managing director, legal, I am the leader of the Gender Equity Program of Credicorp Group.
Our program has four pillars: gender balance, gender pay gap, work and personal life balance, and zero tolerance policy to sexual harassment. We measure our gender balance monthly in every company of the Credicorp Group, by level, and we have several initiatives to improve the balance, such as mentoring, networking, gender bias and sexual harassment courses, among others.
We also implemented an unbiased recruiting process which includes diverse interviewers, diverse shortlist, blind resumes, among others. Thanks to this process, Credicorp Capital’s percentage of women recruited increased from 18% to 50% in 2022. Additionally, all companies offer a soft landing for new mothers to gradually return to work until the seventh month from the child’s birth and 21 free business days for new fathers.
Finally, we measure our pay gap each year and we can confirm that we do not have a pay gap that is explained by gender. Notwithstanding, we continue to closely monitor our pay index each year.
If existent, can you talk about you or your company’s efforts relating to renewability, sustainability or other environmentally friendly activities?
As part of Credicorp Group, we are aligned with our parent company sustainability’s purpose which is to improve lives, assuming a proactive role in driving the necessary changes in the countries where we operate.
Our pillars are creating a more sustainable and inclusive economy, improving the financial health of citizens and empower our people to thrive. In turn, Credicorp Capital has defined three programs to work as part of its social responsibility plan: pro bono advisory services program, corporate volunteer program and environmental responsibility program.
Credicorp Capital Chile has a foundation (Fundación Credicorp Capital) through which we give pro bono financial advice to other foundations in Chile. All employees in Chile can participate in any of these projects. Our commitment to environmental responsibility is reflected in the reduction of the environmental impact generated by the development of our operations.
Based on the annual measurement of our Carbon Footprint, various initiatives are derived to mitigate and compensate for environmental impacts. Finally, we participate in several corporate volunteer programs throughout the year.
