How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

In times of crisis and instability, lawyers need a solid understanding of legal principles and the agility to adapt. As strategic legal advisors, they must cultivate flexibility and creativity to develop innovative legal strategies that address evolving challenges and future business needs. Clearly, legal strategy must be aligned with overall business objectives. Therefore, involving the legal department from the beginning of a project allows contributing alternative solutions that are then evaluated and defined by top-level decision-makers. In-house lawyers play an increasingly important role in this regard, combining legal expertise with risk analysis and a keen awareness of contextual factors. Proactive and early-stage involvement of in-house lawyers enables the proposal of tailored solutions and fosters an entrepreneurial spirit within the company.

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?

Undoubtedly, artificial intelligence is the tool that will demand a new standard of service from professionals in various fields, including lawyers. This is to show that they remain essential for strategic decision-making. In this sense, AI will require the development of other skills, such as empathy and flexibility, to formulate a comprehensive legal opinion. In my view, technology should be seen as a tool for process improvement, allowing the focus to remain on key issues and strategic decisions. In this sense, AI does not replace the expert legal opinion and holistic perspective that lawyers have on the reality of the businesses they advise but serves as an increasingly important tool and background to develop legal strategies.

With this challenge in mind, I have gradually been learning about and keeping up to date with various platforms that can help streamline administrative work.
