Bernardo Correa
Executive legal, compliance and audit manager | Pacific Hydro Chile
Team size: Six
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
In times of crisis, companies usually turn to their legal departments. At such times it is important to convey tranquility and avoid making hasty decisions. A good general counsel should anticipate and be prepared for these moments and hopefully have a clear plan of action, containing different alternative solutions.
Any legal strategy in times of instability must always comply with local law and internal policies but also have ideas and ingenious solutions that go beyond the strictly legal.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
I have always promoted the company’s diversity, inclusion and equity efforts. Five of the six members of the legal and audit team are females, with no differences in terms of salary and conditions. We have no quotas. The people I have on my team are the best fit for those positions regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation.
