How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

Leading legal teams in a VUCA world requires a strategic approach that balances agility, innovation, communication, and continuous learning. In Softys we focus our strategy on agility and flexibility, encourage creativity, solid communication, ongoing training and data-driven decision making, like any other team in the company. Finally, we are also a business team. Another fundamental factor is the collaborative and formative work with junior lawyers. All relevant matters are addressed together, in teams that include lawyers from different countries and with varying fields of experience

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

At Softys, we experience sustainability firsthand, every day. We are a care company, and we take care of the future today. All areas, regardless of their function, are called to be agents of care for our consumers, the environment, and therefore, its sustainability. The work of in-house lawyers is, in all its aspects, a task of sustainability. We are called to be the custodians of the business’s integrity and its long-term projection in every decision made. In this sense, the only way to correctly approach our role is to be fully involved in the business, contributing our vision to decision-making from the outset, as team players.

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?

Diversity of thought is fundamental to good decision-making. In our team, there are people from seven countries who have also lived and worked abroad and who have not only worked and studied legal matters but also other subjects. This enriches the analyses and makes the day-to-day much more enjoyable.
