Josefina Tocornal is a distinguished legal professional with extensive experience in corporate governance and crime prevention. Currently, she serves as the legal and compliance director, secretary of the board of directors, and head of crime prevention at Banco Falabella, a role she has held since June 2022.

Before joining Banco Falabella, Tocornal held significant positions at Transbank from August 2019 to May 2022, where she was the legal division manager and secretary of the board of directors. Her expertise also includes a notable tenure at Tech Pack between June 2014 and July 2019, where she was the prosecutor, secretary of the board of directors, and head of crime prevention. During her time at Tech Pack, she coordinated with national and international legal teams, facilitated the sale of subsidiaries in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru to Amcor, and played a critical role in the company’s transformation from an open to a closed joint-stock company.

Tocornal’s career began at Pumpin, Alliende y Compañía, where she worked as an attorney from March 1990 to September 1995, focusing on civil, commercial, and labour issues. Her legal acumen was further honed at Laboratorio Chile, where she served from March 1996 to June 2006 as a prosecutor and legal advisor, contributing to major corporate transitions and compliance with international regulatory requirements.

Academically, Tocornal holds a Doctor of Law and a master’s in legal science from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC), both with maximum distinction. She completed her law degree at PUC after graduating from La Maisonnette School. Her scholarly contributions include the publication of her thesis, “The Civil Liability of Clinics and Hospitals,” by Thomson Reuters/Legal Publishing in 2014.

Tocornal’s professional journey is complemented by her international experience, including doctoral research at the University of Toulouse I Capitole in France and advanced English studies in London. Fluent in English and proficient in French, she is also an accomplished marathoner, having participated in marathons in Santiago, New York, Buenos Aires, and the Pucón Triathlon.
