How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
Flexibility and adaptability are essential to ensure legal strategy adjusts to changing circumstances. Having said that the main focus should be put on attracting and retaining qualified personnel, because a short time saving will certainly translate into a long-time expense if a relevant matter is not handled as it should be. Unique talent profoundly affects work quality and organisational outcomes and losing star performers can seriously alter the nature of the work produced.
In your opinion, what are the main trends that are salient in your country currently (these can be legal, political, economy or business-based)?
While the trend to introduce significant legislative changes particularly in labor and social security matters still exists, it seems to be receding. Nonetheless, and just as a brief example, the governmental push to introduce a profound reform is still alive.
The relevant issue underlying this debate is whether an urgent need to improve the average retirement pension enables this or the next government to weaken a system that had worked efficiently for 43 years, instead of focusing on the real problem which is the low growth rate of the economy and therefore the lower salaries, increasing unemployment rates and lack of incentives to have better jobs in the formal economy.
What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
I have a personal goal of staying informed about the most recent AI Developments. On a professional level on 2023 I was able to lead and successfully close a project to introduce an AI Platform to help Healthcare Professional stay updated on relevant medical matters with a solid database and a system that it can answer questions almost as an expert human being on health care matters. This was a breakthrough achievement and a first of its kind in Chile that will certainly open new paths of development in the upcoming years.
