SalfaCorp
SalfaCorp is one of the largest and most important companies in the Chilean construction and real estate sector, and operates through two business units, namely engineering and construction. The company has expanded immensely on a national basis in the last few decades, and now also has extensive international operations with offices in Argentina, Colombia, Peru, China and Malaysia. SalfaCorp’s announcement in April 2018 that it plans to invest more than $240m in real estate initiatives, a 10% increase on last year, means that its legal team has a challenging year ahead. Fortunately, the department headed by group general counsel José Tomás Palacios Calvanese, who possesses a great track record in overseeing highly sophisticated projects and transactions, having very recently contributed to the sealing of a contract with US engineering and construction firm Fluor Corporation. This significant $1bn contract will see SalfaCorp develop works in the expansion of the open pit Spence mine in the Atacama Desert. In addition to its skilled and highly knowledgeable general counsel, who boasts substantial experience in the sector and an LLM from Columbia University, the team employs a number of second-to-none legal professionals such as César Andrés Pérez Burgos, Pablo Correa and Maria Pia Herrera Jorquera.
