How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or cries to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

Definite and clear orientation for legal department is my first concern. What kind of function does an in-house legal department need to have?

In my opinion, the legal department is one of the essentialdepartments of a company. Its natural function is reflected in serving the company’s running and operations. Companies and legal departments are communities of a shared future. On the other hand, as legal persons, we should serve and solve problems by means of legal thinking and complying with legal principles. Nowadays, with a downturn in the economic environment, enterprises must face more crises, and as a crucial part in it, legal department could similarly hardly keep itself clean and pure.

In conclusion, definite and clear orientation, enhancing communication, sticking to legal principle are what I think might be the feasible methods to face an instability and ensure a department’s resilience.

What are the main projects that you have been involved recently?

The most important project recently on my agenda is our ZTO Freight capitalised item which experienced the A, A+ and B round of financing in the past years. We were delighted to obtain unanimous recognition from investors in the field of logistics. We have good reasons to expect a public offering on capitalised market in nearly coming future.

How do you build relationships with other teams in the company?

We need to instill the idea that legal and business departments are partners or comrades in arms. From my point of view, I never assume that the legal department and business department are two opposing parties. We share a common goal that strikes a bargain, we do our utmost to achieve cooperation while being aware of all risks and benefits. On this basis, we will use our professional knowledge and rich experience to find win-win solutions or as far as possible to minimise risks. At the same time, when problems come out, the legal department serves as their powerful supporting team and provides the bottom line of defense. On the basis of trust, we use legal knowledge to strengthen other departments and enhance compliance and legitimacy in all aspects of the company.
