How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

To ensure the organisation’s resilience during periods of instability or crises, we are approaching the issue from two perspectives:

Legal risk management: we introduced the ‘Five-Step Business Risk Decomposition’ for HIVE BOX. This innovative approach reviews business operations through five key lenses: business logic, legal relationships, contract inventory, core risks, and countermeasures.

Team cooperation: Our 12-member legal department has developed a comprehensive management system that encompasses corporate compliance, corporate affairs, contract management, investment and financing law, litigation and disputes, and intellectual property. This system supports the legal compliance efforts of 12 headquarters departments, 14 business lines, and 15 regions through a structured three-dimensional division of work.

What are the main projects that you have been involved in recently?

One of the most important projects this year is Hive Box’s IPO. I am a key member of the project team, responsible for overseeing all legal and compliance issues. After more than six months of hard work, we submitted the A1 application to The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited on August 30, 2024.

What are some of the main trends impacting the industry sector you work in in China?

There are two key trends impacting our company.

The first is the influence of new industry regulations in express logistics. Recently, there has been a surge in the implementation of new laws and regulations, which are imposing increasingly stringent requirements on the industry. We remain vigilant about how these new regulations affect our daily operations and are committed to adjusting our compliance strategies promptly to meet these regulatory demands.

The second trend pertains to data compliance, privacy, and network security. Given that our company’s operations span the entire country and involve handling a significant volume of personal information and sensitive data, ensuring legal compliance in our data governance practices presents a considerable challenge for our team moving forward.

How do you build relationships with other teams in the company?

We believe that the legal department adds value by helping the company achieve its business objectives. As such, the legal department acts as a business partner to other departments within the company. Our role involves assisting the business department in preventing legal risks, helping them understand the compliance costs associated with their business decisions, and supporting them in achieving their objectives.

At the same time, the legal department is also responsible for supervision and control. In compliance projects, such as those related to data regulations, we review whether the business activities meet legal requirements and assist the business department in making any necessary corrections.
