How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
To address the above-mentioned challenges, the following measures have been taken by my team. To align with core management’s strategic goals, we have ensured that the strategic planning and implementation of the legal department are consistent with the company’s overall strategy. This involves regularly communicating with senior management to understand and support the company’s long-term and short-term goals.
We’ve also strengthened the recruitment and internal training: Recruit talent with relevant experience and skills and conduct systematic internal training to enhance team members’ vision, judgment, and ability to handle uncertain risks.
We select the most capable external agencies: Actively seek help from external professional agencies by choosing law firms or consulting companies with extensive industry experience and strong capabilities.
What are the main projects that you have been involved in recently?
My company is actively expanding its market overseas. We have established branches in over a dozen cities for our traditional business, and in our innovative ventures, we are actively utiliing platforms like Amazon, TikTok Shop, and our own website to promote and sell smart-learning devices and other equipment. The legal team has been involved in providing comprehensive support throughout the entire process, ensuring that personnel, funds, data, and products can move compliantly and freely across various legal jurisdictions.
What are some of the main trends impacting the industry sector you work in in China?
Geopolitical tensions are on the rise, leading Chinese companies to face stricter regulations when expanding their business overseas, particularly in Western countries. Even traditionally friendly nations have begun to view Chinese enterprises with increased scrutiny. As a result, Chinese companies must exercise extra caution when going global, especially regarding cross-border data and content transmission.
Do you use any ‘legal tech’ products, and if so, for which areas of your work do you find them most useful?
ChatGPT is the most frequently used legal technology tool by our team. It has significantly improved the efficiency and quality of drafting, reviewing legal documents, and conducting legal research.
