Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group) is a Chinese state-owned enterprise and holding company of several automobile and machine manufacturers located in Beijing. With over two million vehicles manufactured in 2014, BAIC group was the fourth largest Chinese producer among its domestic rivals. The team is led by general counsel Sun Yanchen, who has led a series of important strategic activities as the group continues to expand its operations. Amongst the legal departments most notable feats, when BAIC Group purchased Saab’s technology from General Motors for US$200m, the Chinese car maker was able to roll out Saab-based cars from 2011 onwards, something which proved to be a crucial milestone at the time. Some of the landmark transactions that the legal team have been involved in include raising US$1.4bn for an IPO ahead of BAIC Group’s Hong Kong listing in 2014.
