BP, the British Petroleum Company, has a major presence in China where it is a leading innovator within the oil and gas industry and is constantly looking to expand and develop its role in the market. This year BP and China Resources Network (Shenzhen) completed an agreement for BP to join China Resources’ customer loyalty program, one of the largest in China, and will steadily integrate its petrol stations into the network. This innovative partnership is the only one of its kind in China. With the help of its in-house legal team, led by managing counsel of BP legal downstream Anthony Hui, BP is a leader in legal management in the Chinese oil and gas industry. A nominator says, ‘as one of the world’s seven oil and gas “supermajors”, the British Petroleum Company (BP) set its footprint in China in the 1970s by trading and licensing their technologies and then moving into oil and gas exploration in the 1980s. As of June 2018, BP had invested around US$4.5bn in the Chinese oil and gas industry. Its active role in China’s economic development witnesses the country’s dramatic changes of the energy sector’.
