Global design firm, Gensler, has 6,000 practitioners across 46 offices in 16 countries worldwide and has a total revenue of US$1.18bn. In China, the company’s legal team is led by regional legal counsel Asia Pacific, Johannes Weilharter who has specialties in Chinese construction law, real estate and public procurement. Gensler has had exponential influence in China, especially in Shanghai where it has been responsible for building the 632-meter Shanghai Tower that ranks as China’s tallest building with 127 stories, and the skyline’s most prominent icon. The Tower encompasses entertainment venues, retail outlets, a conference centre, a luxury hotel and cultural amenity spaces. The legal team has worked on reviews and approvals in preparation for its occupancy. A large part of the legal team’s daily work involves assisting the company in becoming more resourceful, resilient and regenerative, by providing risk-free sustainable solutions to designers and strategists at Gensler.
