Chinese multinational networking, telecommunications equipment and services company, Huawei, takes the title of the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world and as of 2018, it is the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world behind Samsung. Song Liuping, member of the supervisory board and chief legal officer manages the legal team which appropriately advises the company in legal and compliance matters in areas of cloud computing and technology. In 2017, the legal team assisted Huawei on creating a Narrowband-IoT city-aware network using a construction model that utilises IoT, cloud computing, big data and next-generation information and communication technology, aiding Huawei in its aims to be one of the world’s largest cloud players. In other plans to expand business relationships, in November 2018, Huawei helped Chinese automobile manufacturer, BYD, build a standardised, smart factory, in light of governments around the world advocating the development and usage of electric vehicles and auxiliary facilities. In 2018, Huawei announced plans to make their patented Nano Memory a new industry standard, replacing microSD on its latest phones, a project negotiated by the legal department.
