Kemira
Kemira is a chemical industry group with three main segments of operation; pulp and paper, municipal and industrial, and oil and mining, focusing on water-intensive industries, with the aim to improve its customers’ water, energy and raw material efficiency. Kemira’s legal department has been busy with a number of critical joint ventures in the oil sector, most recently Kemira’s joint venture with a fatty acid chloride producer in China, joining – Kemira TC Wanfeng Chemicals Yanzhou – with Shandong Tiancheng Wanfeng Chemical Technology (Tiancheng). The venture is predicted to strengthen Kemira’s position as the global leader in pulp and paper industry and supports the growth of water treatment. The legal department negotiated the favourable outcome of Kemira having 80% and Tiancheng 20% of the new company. With the value of the investment for the 80% share around €55m and the option for Kemira to acquire Tiacheng’s 20% in the coming years, it will be the job of the legal department to define the pre-conditions of the deal, and set the direction of growth for the transaction.
