SAIC General Motors was born from a joint venture between US car maker General Motors Company and SAIC Motor, manufacturing and selling known brands such as Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac automobiles in mainland China. The legal department is fully responsible for managing large purchase joint ventures over the years, contributing to the company’s growth in the luxury car sector. The legal department have assisted in a number of high-profile launches; in September 2006, General Motors launched the Chevrolet Corsa plus in Chile, making it the first export market to receive a vehicle manufactured by SAIC-GM. Also at the centre of the legal department’s work is its assistance on innovation within the Chinese automobile industry, where the legal department has provided legal advice and cohesion between the business technology and legal functionalities, further strengthening the company’s reputation as one of the most important leading enterprises of the Chinese automobile industry.
