One of China’s four largest state oil companies, Sinochem is China’s leading chemical service provider and biggest agricultural service operator. The legal department is led by Yu Lemin, who was appointed as general counsel in July 2013, and has served in the legal function for more than two decades. The legal department deals with a range of cross-border mergers and acquisitions, overseeing the legal affairs of the group, primarily helping out on its five strategic business units, namely energy, chemicals, agriculture, real estate and finance, and its operations in more than 300 subsidiaries around the world. It has helped the company hold a stake in a number of listed companies including Sinochem International, Sinofert, and China Jinmao. Sinochem has future plans to transform into an innovative platform led by science and technology in five to ten years, contributing to innovation-driven strategies and promoting the sustainable development of society, the legal department will continue to support the operations for this initiative, providing advice that is up-to date with ever-changing sustainability requirements.
