What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

One of the most relevant cases is the settlement of certain hydrocarbon transport disputes which amounted to US$1.5bn. It was the result of over a year of negotiations and careful design of the settlement approval process by Colombian courts. An additional relevant transaction was the issuance of bonds under rule 144 A – Reg S by Frontera in June 2021 in the number of US$400m and a 7.875% coupon. The bonds were oversubscribed and attracted new investors.

What legal and management trends do you see having an impact in your market?

Companies are now more focused on the benefits identified as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Companies are providing flexibility to employees, in terms of where they are based and other hybrid working models. Lawyers and other employees are open to having their teams based on different jurisdictions.

As we enter the next decade, what skills will an in-house lawyer need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?

We need to develop skills concerning environmental, social and governance matters. In addition, we would clearly need to increase our technological skills.
